Encouragement & Parables

Dear CR saints,

Our current situation in the world is one of difficulty on many levels which puts us in the place of us making hard decisions. Do I wear a mask or not and in what situations? Do I meet with people or not and which people? Do I send my kids to school or keep them home? How, when and where do I meet with other believers? How much should I go to stores? Should I travel? My heart goes out to school administrators, business leaders and government officials for all the difficult decisions they have to make which impacts so many. Let us pray for them.

I am reminded of the exhortations in the Book of Hebrews for us to meet and fellowship together:

Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV) “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Hebrews 3:13 (ESV) “But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.”

This is a Biblical mandate not so much as a command to obey but as a necessity for our spiritual health and growth pandemic or no pandemic. Therefore, we need to figure out how to do it in this day and age whether in person or by phone by old-fashioned writing and mail or by computer. “But let us consider how to do it then do it!!!”

When we are isolated from fellowship, we can tend to get selfish. I know this from personal experience. Why is fellowship especially important as Christ’s second coming approaches? Paul tells us that in the last days difficult times will come and then describes those days. (see II Timothy 3:1-9) We are in those days even though we don’t know exactly when He will come again.

I hope that you can join us either in person or on-line for your benefit and encouragement this Sunday, August 2nd at 10 am for the Coulee Rock service. This week I have a great and fun topic: “Buried Treasure”. We will see how Jesus described His Kingdom is like finding hidden wealth and treasure.

God’s grace,

Pastor Dave
